Amarillo livestock auction summary


The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 704 head Feb. 4, compared to 892 head last week and 429 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold weak to $3 lower on limited comparable sales. Steer and heifer calves were not well tested. Trade activity and demand were moderate to good. Offering included a few loads of heifers weighing 750 to 800 pounds and one load of steers weighing 825 pounds. Slaughter cows were steady to $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were not well tested last week. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 9%, 1% replacement and 90% feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 35% steers and bulls, 65% heifers, with nearly 92% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 342 lbs., 217.00; few 414 lbs., 211.00; few 472 lbs., 184.00; few 655 lb. calves 146.50; few 780 lbs., 143.00, few 794 lbs., calves, 139.00; load 826 lbs., 145.25, few 819 lbs., fleshy 134.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, lot 823 lbs., 133.00. Holsteins, Large frame 3, few 709 lbs., 85.00; lot 835 lbs., 86.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, few 482 lbs., 160.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 450 lbs., 169.00 to 170.00; 600 to 650 lbs., 136.50 to 138.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 134.00 to 135.00, few 754 lbs., calves, 128.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 382 lbs., 156.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 130.00 to 131.50; 750 to 800 lbs., 125.00 to 131.50, few 777 lbs., thin fleshed 135.00. Medium and large frame 2, 750 to 800 lbs., 119.00 to 121.00.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1100 to 1500 lbs., 76.00 to 78.00. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1400 lbs., 79.25 to 82.00; high dressing, 84.25 to 86.25; low dressing, 75.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 79.50 to 80.00; high dressing, 83.75; low dressing, 72.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 72.50 to 77.75; high dressing, 80.50; low dressing, 67.00 to 69.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1503 to 2160 lbs., 96.50 to 100.00; high dressing, 1400 to 1758 lbs., 104.50 to 106.25.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young, 900 to 1000 lbs., 3 to 9 months bred, 900.00 to 975.00; middle-aged, 1425 lbs., 6 to 9 months bred, 1100.00/head. Medium and large frame 2, young, 900 to 1000 lbs., 3 to 9 months bred, 785.00/head.
