U.S. Postal Service to halt Saturday deliveries

The U.S. Postal Service has announced it will halt Saturday mail delivery, which will hinder timely delivery of Midwest Ag Journal to readers across the Midwest.

The financially struggling Postal Service says in an effort to save about $2 billion annually they will cut Saturday mail delivery. The change will begin in August.

The change will affect Midwest Ag Journal subscribers who have been receiving the publication on Saturday, and could affect Monday delivery as well. Publisher Tom Taylor says the announcement to cut Saturday delivery was not a surprise.

"This announcement by the USPS will further hinder the Journal's efforts for on-time Saturday delivery to many of our 50,000 subscribers," said Taylor. "The silver lining here is that our digital edition will continue being delivered to subscribers' inboxes every week, and the number of digital subscribers continues to grow."

"The USPS announcement will certainly drive more of our readers to online readership, further eroding USPS's revenues," Taylor added.

High Plains Journal and Midwest Ag Journal are weekly agriculture news publications with five geographic editions covering production agriculture across 12 states with paid readership. The Journal is based in Dodge City, Kan., and has brought essential industry news and markets to farm families and agriculture decision makers for more than 60 years throughout the core of production agriculture.
