Rotary to host Chuckwagon BarbecueOne of the most mouth-watering traditions at the New Mexico Ag Expo is the Chuckwagon Barbecue, which will be held 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 19 and sponsored by the Portales Rotary Club. Club members bring two barbecue pits to the fairgrounds each year and start the real wood fire early in the morning. By late morning they're cooking up platters of smoky pork chops that melt in your mouth. Along with the pork chops are served potato salad, beans, rolls, dessert and drink for just $12. The event serves as the club's biggest fundraiser of the year. The proceeds fund a variety of local youth initiatives, support of Rotary Park in Portales, sponsoring students to Rotary's leadership camp RYLA and participation in the Rotary Foundation's major project PolioPlus. There is no admission to the grounds or any of the events during the two-day run of the Expo, sponsored by Plateau and Dairy Farmers of America. The show will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Feb. 19, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 20. For applications or more information about vendor booths or attendance call 800-635-8036, email the Expo at chamber@portales.com or visit the all-new website at nmagexpo.com. Date: 2/11/2013
