Seminar will discuss prairie dog control and the new rules on Rozal

Methods and regulations for controlling pests such as prairie dogs change regularly and ranchers and farmers need to keep current to avoid expense and problems.

The 21st Annual New Mexico Ag Expo, sponsored by Plateau, is pleased to bring Sam Smallidge, New Mexico State University Extension wildlife specialist, to provide training on various means of controlling prairie dogs. The seminar will be presented at 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 20 in the McAlister Room of the Jake Lopez Bldg. at the Roosevelt County Fairgrounds in Portales, N.M. The seminar is sponsored by New Mexico Gas Company.

Smallidge will discuss control options for burrowing rodents and present the new rules on using Rozal to control prairie dogs. This program should provide greater understanding of how to control prairie dogs and explain what is needed to use Rozal as a control device. This course has been approved by the New Mexico Department of Agriculture for one continuing education unit to be applied toward a private applicator's license.
