Tulia livestock auction report

The Tulia Livestock Auction Inc., Tulia, Texas, reported receipts of 634 head Jan. 31, compared to 1,561 head last week and 1,701 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold steady to $3 higher on limited comparable sales. Steer and heifer calves were not well tested however a higher undertone was noted. Demand was good especially on a few light weight conditioned calves available in the offering. Slaughter cows were steady to firm and slaughter bulls were not well established. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 3%, 0% replacement and 97% feeders. Feeder supply included 45% steers and bulls, 55% heifers, with 88% of the run over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 400 lbs., 211.00 to 221.00; few 637 lbs., 154.00; few 679 lbs., calves, 148.75; few 794 lbs., 139.50; load 800 lbs., 140.00; load 943 lbs., 135.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 509 lbs., 167.00; lot 867 lbs., 133.50. Medium and large frame 2, few 733 lbs., 137.00; lot 862 lbs., 132.25. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, few 677 lbs., 120.00; few 786 lbs., 118.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, few 487 lbs., 183.50; few 554 lbs., 157.00; few 630 lbs., 148.50; lot 704 lbs., 135.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 673 lbs., 129.50.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, few 304 lbs., 188.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 170.00 to 176.00; few 481 lbs., 155.00; 500 to 550 lbs., 145.00 to 151.50; 600 to 675 lbs., 139.50 to 142.00, few 605 lbs., calves, 138.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 130.00 to 138.85; 800 to 825 lbs., 130.00 to 132.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, load 631 lbs., 140.50; few 845 lbs., 124.00.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1300 to 1400 lbs., 69.25 to 71.50. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 79.00 to 79.75; high dressing, 83.00 to 85.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 77.00 to 78.00; high dressing, 80.00 to 84.00; low dressing, 68.00 to 74.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1875 to 2020 lbs., 95.00 to 96.50.
