Dalhart livestock auction report


The Cattleman's Livestock Commission Co., Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 1,686 head Jan. 31, compared to 1,778 head last week and 2,519 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to week ago, feeder steers and heifers were firm to $2 higher, one large string steers from reputation source sold $5 higher. Slaughter cows were firm. Slaughter bulls were $1 to $2 higher. Trade was active. Demand was good. It appeared all the established feeder buyers typically in attendance from week to week were pushing to fill orders which made for lively trade. Body condition on receipts mostly moderate flesh with a few fleshy. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2 450 to 950 pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 29%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows 0%, and feeders 70%. The feeder supply included 68% steers and 32% heifers, with near 81% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 337 lbs., pre-conditioned 233.00; few 436 lbs., 198.00, few 490 lbs., 182.00, few 454 lbs., pre-conditioned 201.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 162.00 to 169.00, few 557 lbs., pre-conditioned 172.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 151.50 to 156.75, few 603 lbs., thin 162.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 144.00 to 150.00, few 725 lbs., gaunt 152.50; 800 to 900 lbs., 139.00 to 141.50, few 837 lbs., 143.00; 900 to 975 lbs., 134.50 to 138.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2 few 385 lbs., pre-conditioned 191.00; few 548 lbs., pre-conditioned 172.00; few 575 to 600 lbs., 151.00 to 154.00; few 700 to 800 lbs., 136.00 to 141.00; few 841 lbs., 131.00, few 865 lbs., 136.50.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1 few 341 lbs., 172.00; 400 to 425 lbs., pre-conditioned 165.00 to 169.00; 450 to 500 lbs., pre-conditioned 155.00 to 157.00, few 473 lbs., 149.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 146.00 to 151.00, few 514 lbs., fancy 154.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 140.50 to 142.00, few 653 lbs., 137.50; 700 to 750 lbs., 138.00 to 141.00; 750 to 800 lbs., 132.00 to 136.00; load 890 lbs., 128.80; few 801 lbs., fleshy 120.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 443 lbs., thin 156.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 141.00 to 146.00; few 794 lbs., 130.00.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1475 to 1700 lbs., 79.00 to 83.50. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1200 lbs., 80.50 to 82.00; high dressing, 85.50 to 91.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 79.50 to 82.00; high dressing, 83.75 to 85.50; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 83.75 to 86.00.

Dairy slaughter cows: Boning, 75 to 80% lean, 1300 to 1500 lbs., 75.00 to 78.75; high dressing, 82.00 to 84.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1200 to 1400 lbs., 76.50 to 80.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1500 to 1600 lbs., 100.00 to 101.00; high dressing, 2285 lbs., 106.00 to 113.00.
