Clovis livestock auction report

The Clovis Livestock Auction, Clovis, N.M., reported receipts to 1,304 head Jan. 30, compared to 2,095 head last week and 2,606 head last year, according to the USDA-New Mexico Department of Agriculture Market News, Clovis, N.M.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers were $2 to $5 higher. Slaughter cows were $2 to $4 higher. There was no accurate comparison on bulls due to limited receipts, but a higher undertone was noted. Trade was active, demand very good. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300 to 700 pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows were 2% of the offering, slaughter bulls 1%, bred cows 14%, pairs less than 1%;, feeders 82%. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 52% of the run, feeder bulls 1%, heifers 47%, feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds totaled 33%.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1300 to 1970 lbs., 88.75 to 100.50; low dressing, 1000 to 2065 lbs., 80.00 to 87.50. Holstein slaughter bulls, Yield grade 1 to 2, 1190 to 1800 lbs., 87.50 to 95.50.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few young 1095 to 1191 lbs., fancy cows 3 to 8 months bred, 1125.00 to 1235.00/head; young, 875 to 1325 lbs., 3 to 8 months bred, 825.00 to 1000.00/head; middle-aged, 870 to 1356 lbs., 3 to 8 months bred, 755.00 to 1110.00/head.

First calf heifers: few 755 to 822 lbs., 3 to 8 months bred, 860.00 to 985.00/head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few young, 1045 to 1075 lbs., 120- to 200-lb. calves, 1210.00 to 1300.00/pair.
