Ada livestock auction report

The Southern Oklahoma Livestock Auction, Ada, Okla., reported receipts of 957 head Jan. 30, compared to 1,670 head last week and 972 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, calves under 400 pounds were steady, heavier weights were $3 to $5 higher erasing last week's losses. Yearling cattle were not tested. Demand was very good for all offerings. Overall quality very plain this week. Fill conditions generally favored sellers. Heifers made up 46% of offerings and calves over 600 pounds made up 22% of supply. Slaughter cows were $4 to $6 higher except light cows were $1 to $2 higher in a light test. Slaughter bulls were $2 to $3 higher. Packer demand was very good. The offering included 272 cows and bulls sold with 49% going to packers.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 13 head, 360 to 372 lbs., 162.00 to 165.00 (164.78); 410 to 439 lbs., 159.00 to 164.00 (160.21); 451 to 495 lbs., 160.00 to 166.00 (163.58); 505 to 545 lbs., 145.00 to 155.00 (150.680; 6 head, 506 lbs., 162.00 thin fleshed; 20 head, 556 to 598 lbs., 135.00 to 146.00 (142.24); 17 head, 603 to 643 lbs., 136.00 to 140.00 (138.36) calves;.

Boners, 28 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1025 to 1350 lbs., 83.00 to 86.00; high dressing, 90.00 to 91.00; low dressing, 74.00 to 80.00. Lean, 52 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1275 lbs., 79.00 to 80.25; low dressing, 74.00 to 77.50. Lights, 10 head, 85 to 90% lean, 840 to 975 lbs., 72.00 to 73.00; high dressing, 80.50; low dressing, 66.00 to 70.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 26 head, 1430 to 2120 lbs., 98.00 to 102.00; high dressing, 103.00 to 105.50; low dressing, 92.00 to 97.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 to 5 years old, 1095 to 1350 lbs., 4 to 5 months bred, average black, 1230.00 to 1360.00; 4 to 6 years old, 1175 to 1200 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, average quality, 1100.00 to 1120.00; 5 to 7 years old, 950 to 1000 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, average quality, 870.00 to 950.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 years old, 985 to 1130 lbs., with 185- to 195-lb. calves, high quality, 1360.00 to 1380.00.
