Colorado Farm Bureau president elected to national boardColorado Many Farm Bureau members from across the country recently attended the 94th AFBF Annual Meeting in Nashville, Tenn. During that meeting, members elected new leadership to the Board of Directors. Don Shawcroft, president, Colorado Farm Bureau, was elected to the board. "I am excited and humbled by the honor and responsibility of representing the western region on the board of the largest general ag organization in the United States and the world. Having attended many AFBF board meetings, it will be a great opportunity to speak up for Colorado and share in the decision making process," he said. He continued, "The priorities established for the 2013 year are issues that affect our way of life, but certainly will not be the only issues that AFBF will be working with Congress to increase their understanding of our concerns and the need for vote with us." Angela Ryden was not re-elected to the Women's Leadership Committee. "Our thanks to Angela for serving on the AFBF Women's Leadership Committee for six years. She has traveled many miles, contributed to the committee work, and given selflessly of her time, talent, and means to the betterment of ag industry," Shawcroft. At the meeting, delegates also voted on AFBF policies. "Colorado Farm Bureau delegates were successful in advancing all of the policies recommended at our state convention in November. There were strong comments about the need to pass a 5-year Farm Bill, and maintain strong support for insurance programs for farmers," said Shawcroft. He added, "There was a call for the AFBF board of directors to work with RMA and others to investigate the feasibility of risk management tools such as an adjusted gross expense insurance policy for livestock producers. There was also a policy calling for individuals witnessing animal abuse being required to report the incident to management or the appropriate authority within 24 hours or be considered an accomplice."
