Apache livestock auction report

The Apache Livestock Auction, Apache, Okla., reported receipts of 1,576 head on Aug. 15, compared to 832 head last week and 1,387 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week the feeder steers were $1 higher. Feeder heifers were $2 to $4 higher. There was not enough comparable steer and heifer calves for a market test but a higher undertone was noted. The demand was good for all classes of cattle. The supply included 47% over 600 lbs. and 45% heifers. Slaughter cows were $3 to $4 higher. Slaughter bulls were $1 higher. Packer demand was good. A total of 211 cows and bulls were sold with 66% going to packers.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 26 head, 1150 to 2175 lbs., 98.00 to 104.00; high dressing, 105.00 to 109.00; low dressing, 93.00 to 97.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 6 years old, 1200 to 1250 lbs., 4 to 7 months bred, high quality 1425.00 to 1575.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 4 to 7 years old, 1300 to 1400 lbs., with 175- to 200-lb. calves, average quality 1625.00 to 1650.00.
