Fall crop tour in central Kansas Sept. 3
The Central Kansas Extension District (Ottawa and Saline counties) will have a fall crop tour in Ottawa County at 5 p.m. Sept. 3. The tour features stops at plots of Roundup Ready soybean varieties and grain sorghum hybrids.
Discussion will focus on cover crops for central Kansas cropping systems, cover crops for grazing, a systems approach to managing weeds in soybeans and sorghum, and a soil fertility update for central Kansas crops. A complimentary meal will be served following the tour, courtesy of cooperating seed dealers at the Delphos Senior Center, 203 N. Washington St., Delphos. In case of inclement weather meet directly at the Delphos Senior Center and presentations will be given there.
The first stop is at 5 p.m. at a Roundup Ready soybean variety plot, on ground farmed by Nathan and John Hyde. From Minneapolis go 3 miles north on 120th Road, 1 mile west on Oxbow Road, then 3/4 mile north on 110th Road. The second stop will be at 6 p.m. at a grain sorghum hybrid plot also on ground farmed by Nathan and John Hyde, located 1 1/2 miles west of Delphos on Volunteer Road and 1 mile north on 70th Road.
Tour speakers include South Central Kansas Experiment Field agronomist Gary Cramer, K-State Extension weed management specialist Dallas Peterson, and Central Kansas Extension agents Anthony Ruiz and Tom Maxwell. All area farmers and interested persons are invited to attend.
