Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary

The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 525 head April 1, compared to 904 head last week and 823 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Not enough comparable sales this week for an adequate market trend. Trade activity was moderate on moderate to good demand. Slaughter cows were $1 to $3 higher. Slaughter bulls not tested. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 5%, 2% replacements and 93% feeders. The feeder supply included 24% steers and bulls, 76% heifers, with nearly 70% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, lot 395 lbs., 184.50; few 477 lbs., 170.00; few 800 lbs., 134.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 450 to 500 lbs., 156.00 to 159.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, few 445 lbs., 156.00; few 732 lbs., 128.50.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 400 lbs., 165.00 to 170.00; few 425 lbs., 156.00; few 662 lb. calves 130.00; few 703 lbs., 131.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 357 lbs., 164.00; few 567 lbs., 140.00; few 690 lbs., 125.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 123.00 to 125.50. Medium and large frame 2, lot 693 lbs., 124.00; lot 816 lbs., 111.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, few 425 lbs., 145.00; 700 to 775 lbs., 105.00 to 110.00.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1400 to 1600 lbs., 72.25. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 83.00 to 84.50; high dressing, 86.50 to 87.00; low dressing, 78.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 78.75 to 81.00; high dressing, 87.50; low dressing, 76.50 to 78.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 82.50; low dressing, 72.00 to 75.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, Young, 800 to 1000 lbs., 6 to 9 months bred 700.00 to 875.00; Aged to Short and Solid, 1000 to 1100 lbs., 6 to 9 months 860.00 to 950.00/head.
