Youth will learn about local government

Have you ever wondered what happens after you get a speeding ticket? Or how exactly are your property taxes calculated? Through a partnership between the Cleveland County Officials and the local 4-H this program youth will learn the answers to these questions.

“It’s not every day that youth are given the opportunity to perform the responsibilities of our elected officials. “ Said Jessie Furnish, Cleveland County 4-H educator.

During this event youth will be divided into two groups, Judicial and Financial. In the Judicial, youth will go through the process from issuing a traffic ticket to court appearance and all the steps in between. For the financial, youth will learn how to assess property and taxes and where funds go next in the county government.

This event is open to all youth ages 9 to 19 years old and is scheduled for April 8 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Cleveland County Courthouse. If you have youth interested please contact the Cleveland County Extension Office at 405-321-4774.
