National Sunflower Association board members go to DC

National Sunflower Association Board Members made visits to members of Congress from Kansas, Minnesota, North and South Dakota regarding farm program issues as Congress considers options for the new farm bill legislation. During the meetings, NSA voiced support for protecting crop insurance as a viable risk management tool and not requiring conservation compliance in order to qualify for crop insurance premium subsides. The group also asked for a price loss or target price program that did not distort or have the potential to distort planting decisions. In addition, they met with key staff members of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service to insure continued funding for the Sunflower Research Unit in Fargo, N.D., and the National Sclerotinia Initiative. The group also met with USDA’s Risk Management Agency, Wildlife Services and Food and Drug Administration.
