Tulia livestock sales report

The Tulia Livestock Auction Inc., Tulia, Teas, reported receipts of 965 head March 28, compared to 2,739 head last week and 1,649 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers sold $3 to $6 higher and feeder heifers traded $1 to $3 higher. Steer and heifer calves were not well tested. Trade activity and demand were good. The offering included a few loads of yearlings weighing over 700 pounds. The CME futures played in favor of cattlemen with feeders making the leap higher and corn dropping drastically. Slaughter cows and bulls sold $1 to $2 higher. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 5%, less than 1% replacements and 95% feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 39% steers and bulls, 61% heifers, with approximately 75% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 565 lbs., 152.00; few 660 lbs., 150.50; lot 778 lbs., 137.25; 800 to 900 lbs., 131.00 to 136.00; load 931 lbs., 127.85; lot 965 lbs., 121.00; lot 1030 lbs., 119.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 473 lbs., 161.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 144.50 to 150.50; lot 750 lbs., 130.00; few 802 lbs., 130.00; 950 to 1000 lbs., 120.00 to 121.50; lot 1004 lbs., 118.75. Medium and large frame 2, few 623 lbs., Mexican origin 132.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, few 420 lbs., 170.50; few 526 lbs., 165.00; few 744 lbs., 137.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 453 lbs., 159.00; lot 631 lbs., 125.50; lot 841 lbs., 110.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 425 lbs., 167.00 to 168.50; 500 to 550 lbs., 143.50 to 153.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 135.00 to 140.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 131.00 to 135.00; few 702 lbs., 132.50; load 778 lbs., 125.00; 800 to 825 lbs., 121.10 to 121.25; lot 895 lbs., 115.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 432 lbs., 150.00; few 551 lbs., 141.50; lot 653 lbs., 125.50; load 733 lbs., 123.85. Medium and large frame 2, lot 544 lbs., 133.50.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1750 lbs., 77.00 to 80.50; low dressing, 73.50 to 75.50. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 82.50 to 85.00; high dressing, 85.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 82.00 to 84.50; high dressing, 85.00 to 88.00; low dressing, 76.50; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs, 77.50 to 79.00; high dressing, 83.00 to 84.50; low dressing, 71.00 to 74.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1730 to 1875 lbs., 102.50 to 103.50; high dressing, individual 1805 lbs., 104.50.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, Young individual, 1100 lbs., 3 to 6 months bred, 1025.00/head.
