Ft. Smith livestock sales

The Ft. Smith Livestock, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 280 head April 1, compared to 495 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Ark.

The sale was not reported last week. The supply included 142 feeder calves, 90 feeder yearlings, 16 replacement cows, 25 slaughter cows, 7 slaughter bulls, and 0 replacement bulls. The feeder supply consisted of about 50% English breed and English crosses, 25% Exotic breed and Exotic crosses, 25% Brahman and Brahman crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply was about 60% steers and bulls with 40% heifers.

Slaughter cows: Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 80.00 to 84.50; high dressing, 85.00 to 89.50; low dressing, 75.00 to 79.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 78.00 to 82.50; low dressing, 73.00 to 77.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 97.00 to 98.00; high dressing, 99.00 to 104.00.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 420 lbs., 180.00 to 190.00 (182.95); 450 to 460 lbs., 161.00 to 173.00 (166.53); 523 to 540 lbs., 156.00 to 159.00 (157.98); 555 to 588 lbs., 148.00 to 156.00 (150.84); 605 to 620 lbs., 148.00 to 155.00 (150.43); 730 to 740 lbs., 129.00. Medium and large frame 2, 370 to 370 lbs., 186.00 (186.00); 405 to 445 lbs., 150.00 to 176.00 (163.94); 450 to 498 lbs., 150.00 to 160.00 (157.36); 705 to 738 lbs., 120.00 to 125.00 (121.21); 755 to 778 lbs., 120.00 to 124.00 (120.98). Holstein, Large frame 3, 315 to 335 lbs., 81.00 to 90.00 (85.64).

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 315 to 345 lbs., 166.00 to 177.00 (171.56); 350 to 395 lbs., 162.00 to 176.00 (167.55); 400 to 435 lbs., 147.00 to 161.00 (155.87); 460 to 495 lbs., 141.00 to 147.00 (144.02); 500 to 540 lbs., 139.00 to 145.00 (141.57); 550 to 595 lbs., 134.00 to 138.00 (136.66); 610 to 630 lbs., 130.00 to 138.00 (133.98).
