Clovis livestock sales report

The Clovis Livestock Auction, Clovis, N.M., reported receipts to 1,111 head March 27, compared to 1,868 head last week and 2,582 head last year, according to the USDA-New Mexico Department of Agriculture Market News, Clovis, N.M.

Compared to last week, feeder steers under 600 pounds were $1 lower, over 600 pounds were $3 higher. Heifers were mostly $2 higher. Slaughter cows were steady to $1 higher. There was no comparison on bulls due to limited comparable sales. Trade was active, demand was good. Interest increased on stockers and feeders as futures closed higher. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 800-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows were 11% of the offering, slaughter bulls 2%, bred cows 2%, pairs 4%, feeders 81%. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 62% of the run, heifers 38%, feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds totaled 52%.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young, 830 to 1240 lbs., 3 to 8 months bred, 950.00 to 1325.00/head; middle aged, 1265 to 1275 lbs., 3 to 8 months bred, 800.00 to 900.00/head; aged, 1170 to 1240 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, 760.00 to 775.00/head.

First-calf heifers: Individual 750 lbs., 6 to 8 months bred, 700.00/head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young 825 to 975 lbs., with 100- to 180-lb. calves, 1100.00 to 1400.00/pair; middle-aged, 850 to 1075 lbs., with 100- to 280-lb. calves, 900.00 to 1100.00/pair; aged, 925 to 950 lbs., with 100- to 150-lb. calves, 885.00 to 975.00/pair.
