Arkansas livestock sales summary

The summary of livestock auctions in Arkansas for the week ending March 28, showed estimated receipts of 4,160 head, compared to 7,853 head last week and 9,018 head last year, according to the USDA-Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows sold steady, with instances of $2 higher on Breakers. Slaughter bulls sold steady. Feeders sold firm to $3 higher, and in some instances were $4 to $8 higher on lightweight thin types suitable for grazing. The supply included 1,990 stocker and feeder calves, 1,050 feeder yearlings, 405 replacement cows, and 645 slaughter cows, and 70 slaughter bulls. The feeder supply was 45% yearling heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 77.00 to 83.00; high dressing, 83.00 to 89.50; low dressing, 69.00 to 77.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 77.00 to 83.00; high dressing, 83.00 to 93.00; low dressing, 70.00 to 77.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 72.00 to 78.00; high dressing, 78.00 to 88.00; low dressing, 62.00 to 72.00. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 62.00 to 68.00; low dressing, 51.00 to 61.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 90.00 to 100.00; high dressing, 100.00 to 107.00; low dressing, 80.00 to 90.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 to 7 years old, 800 to 1200 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves 1300.00 to 1400.00/pair; 200- to 300-lb. calves 1450.00 to 1550.00/pair, few to 1800.00/pair. Small frame 1 and Medium frame 2, 7+ years old, 750 to 900 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves 900.00 to 1000.00/pair.
