Amarillo livestock auction summary

The Amarillo Livestock Auction, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 1,386 head April 22, compared to 543 last week and 522 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo.

Compared to last week’s limited comparable sales, feeder steers and heifers sold mostly steady. Calves were not well tested in the previous sale. Trade activity and demand were moderate to good. The offering included several loads of Medium and large frame 1 heifers weighing 775 pounds. Another roller coaster ride of weather this week brought freezing temperatures back into the area. Slaughter cows sold $1 to $3 lower with slaughter bulls not well tested. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 17 percent, 3 percent were replacements and 80 percent were feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 31 percent steers and bulls, 69 percent heifers. Nearly 50 percent of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 272 lbs., 210.00; few 370 lbs., 200.00; 400 to 450 lbs., 189.00 to 192.00; 500 to 575 lbs., 150.00 to 152.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 129.50 to 130.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 450 to 500 lbs., 150.00 to 151.00; lot 550 lbs., 144.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 121.00 to 123.50; 900 to 1000 lbs., 115.00 to 116.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, lot 282 lbs., 195.00; 350 to 400 lbs., 191.00 to 201.00; lot 436 lbs., 168.00; 500 to 525 lbs., 149.00 to 161.00; few 762 lbs., 122.75.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 400 lbs., 150.00 to 159.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 140.50 to 149.75; 500 to 550 lbs., 137.50 to 140.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 129.00 to 133.50; loads 776 lbs., 126.75; 800 to 900 lbs., 112.00 to 115.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 328 lbs., 156.00; few 407 lbs., 145.50; 500 to 550 lbs., 129.00 to 137.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 121.50 to 125.00; few 708 lbs., 121.50; few 861 lbs., 113.50. Medium and large frame 2, lot 645 lbs., 122.00.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1100 to 1500 lbs., 72.50 to 77.00; low dressing, 69.00 to 71.00. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 77.00 to 79.50; high dressing, 81.75 to 82.50; low dressing, 74.10 to 76.25. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 79.50; high dressing, 82.00; low dressing, 73.00 to 76.00; 800 to 1000 lbs., 73.25 to 76.00; high dressing, 77.25 to 81.00; low dressing, 68.50 to 72.00.

Slaughter bulls:

Yield Grade 1 to 2, individual, 1840 lbs., 92.00; low dressing, individual, 1950 lbs., 87.50.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to short and solid, 800 to 1000 lbs., 3 to 9 months bred, 800.00 to 1000.00; middle-aged, individual, 1 to 3 months bred, 835.00 per head. Medium frame 2, young to short and solid, 800 to 900 lbs., 6 to 9 months bred, 650.00 to 785.00 per head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young, 1000 to 1100 lbs., with 100- to 150-lb. calves, 1410.00 to 1600; aged, 1100 to 1200 lbs., with 75- to 100-lb. calves, 1085.00 per pair.
