Lexington livestock market report


Lexington Livestock Market, Lexington, Neb., reported receipts of 1,765 head April 19, compared 1,475 head last week, according to the Nebraska Department of Agriculture Market News, Kearney, Neb.

Compared to last week, 900-pound steers were mostly steady and heifers sold steady to $2 lower. Demand was light on feeders, moderate on replacement heifers and moderate to good for cow/calf pairs. Several buyers bid on the dispersal of top quality ranch raised cow/calf pairs. Most of the pairs headed out of the state to greener pastures. The supply included 79% feeders, balance on slaughter cattle and pairs. Of the feeders, nearly 68% steers with 93% of the run over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 40 head, 673 lbs., 142.50; 915 to 937 lbs., 120.00 to 123.85 (123.36); 92 head, 950 lbs., 121.60; 5 head, 1034 lbs., 115.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 7 head, 412 lbs., 151.00; 8 head, 523 lbs., 149.00; 10 head, 527 lbs., 156.50 thin fleshed; 17 head, 570 lbs., 135.50 to 146.75 (138.81); 17 head, 650 to 665 lbs., 127.50; 85 head, 682 lbs., 144.00 thin fleshed; 770 to 779 lbs., 122.50 to 124.00 (123.75); 5 head, 832 lbs., 124.00 thin fleshed; 11 head, 871 lbs., 115.25.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 83 head, 734 lbs., 125.60; 728 to 749 lbs., 124.75 to 126.00 (125.82) replacement; 42 head, 764 lbs., 123.75; 769 to 787 lbs., 126.25 replacement. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 7 head, 426 lbs., 141.00; 20 head, 557 to 558 lbs., 124.00 to 125.00 (124.60); 16 head, 628 to 633 lbs., 124.50 to 125.75 (125.00); 56 head, 643 lbs., 133.25 thin fleshed.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, 2 years old, 1155 to 1160 lbs., with 135- to 195-lb. calves 1725.00; 3 to 4 years, 1175 to 1320 lbs., with 135- to 170-lb. calves 1690.00 to 1725.00. Solid mouth, 1420 to 1475 lbs., with 160- to 185-lb. calves 1460.00 to 1500.00. Short solid mouth, 1430 to 1460 lbs., with 175- to 200-lb. calves 1350.00. Broken mouth, 1460 lbs., with 175 lbs., calves 1360.00.
