Town hall meetings focus on growing demand for local meat

The Colorado Department of Agriculture invites the public to attend town hall meetings focusing on meat processing and inspections. Topics include the inspection process, facility requirements, custom exempt processing facility requirements, and marketing opportunities and assistance.

“We are continuing our effort to discuss this important topic with producers. During our first meetings in February, we heard concerns and ideas related to the buying local movement and the ability to get meat processed locally,” said CDA’s Inspection and Consumer Services Division Director Steve Bornmann. “Our hope is to find out more about the needs of our producers and meat processors and how we can assist in developing new marketing opportunities.”

The meetings are open to the public, free of charge, and everyone is invited to participate. The meeting sites are:

3 p.m., May 9, Moffat County Courthouse, Main Floor Conference Room, 221 W. Victory Way, Craig, Colo.; and

5 p.m., May 20, American Legion, Event Hall, 878 E. 2nd Avenue, Durango, Colo.
