West Plains cattle sales report

The Ozarks Regional Stockyards, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 2,344 head April 16, compared to 4,150 head last week and 2,351 head last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, steers sold $5 to $10 lower. Heifers were $3 to $7 lower, except front-end 6-weight heifers were fully steady. The supply was moderate. The offering was pretty much made up of new-crop calves, and most of the price variation depended on flesh condition, quality, color and whether they were weaned with respiratory shots. Demand was unevenly light to moderate. The supply consisted of 53% steers, 47% heifers, with nearly 38% over 600 pounds.
