Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary

The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 543 head April 15, compared to 1,090 head last week and 678 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

There was not enough comparable sales of feeder steers or heifers for an adequate market trend, however a lower undertone was noted. Trade activity and demand were moderate. The CME feeder cattle futures struggled to start off the week losing over $1 across the board. The area remains dry and in need of moisture. Slaughter cows sold weak to $3 lower with slaughter bulls not well tested. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 6%, 3% replacements and 91% feeders. The feeder supply included 62% steers and bulls, 38% heifers, with approximately 70% of the run over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 500 lbs., 183.00 to 197.00, few 400 lbs., thin fleshed 200.00; few 582 lbs., fleshy 145.50; few 650 lbs., 137.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 129.00 to 130.00; 800 to 850 lbs., 127.50 to 128.75; lot 853 lbs., 123.50; lot 907 lbs., 120.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 392 lbs., 175.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, few 277 lbs., 171.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, few 459 lbs., 176.00; few 591 lbs., 144.50; 700 to 800 lbs., 114.00 to 119.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 354 lbs., 142.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 400 lbs., 150.00 to 151.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 140.00 to 152.00; few 521 lbs., 135.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 125.50 to 126.00, few 686 lbs., fleshy 119.50; few 750 lbs., 127.50, few 768 lbs., fleshy 116.00; 800 to 850 lbs., 112.50 to 117.25. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 406 lbs., 137.50.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1100 to 1500 lbs., 75.75; high dressing, 82.50; low dressing, 72.25 to 74.50. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1300 80.00 to 80.25. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 78.00 to 80.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 79.00 to 79.50; high dressing, 80.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield Grade 1 to 2, high dressing, 1985 to 2115 lbs., 100.25 to 103.75.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, Young to Aged, 900 to 1000 lbs., 3 to 9 months bred 885.00 to 1050.00/head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, Middle Aged individual 1000 lbs., with 100-lb. calf 1260.00/pair.
