Pratt livestock auction report

The Pratt Livestock Feeder Cattle Auction, Pratt, Kan., reported receipts of 4,516 head, April 11, compared to 4,779 head, last week and 2,082 head, last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared with last week, steers at 600 to 1,050 pounds and heifers at 700 to 950 pounds were $3 to $5 lower, cattle with excessive flesh and fill in some instances were $6 to $10 lower. Steers at 600 pounds and under, also heifers 700 pounds and under not enough for an accurate market test, a lower undertone was noted. Trade was slow to moderate, demand was light to moderate as buyers were severely discounted cattle with excessive flesh, fill and poor muscle score. Slaughter cows were firm to $2 higher, slaughter bulls, in a limited test, firm to $3 higher. Trade was active and demand was good. Receipts: 82% 600 lbs., and over, 13% 600 lbs., and under and 5% slaughter cows and bulls. Feeder supply 53% steers and 47% heifers.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 103.00 to 106.00; low dressing, 94.00 to 99.00.
