Lexington livestock market report

The Lexington Livestock Market, Lexington, Neb., reported receipts of 1,475 head April 12, compared to 3,720 head last week and 3,575 head last year, according to the Nebraska Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Kearney, Neb.

Compared to last week, heifers sold $2 lower. There were not enough steers for an adequate market comparison, although a lower undertone was noted. Demand was mostly light from a light crowd of buyers. Most offerings were medium to fleshy condition. Quite a few pairs sold. Most on offer because of the grass situation. Demand was moderate to good for pairs. The supply included 70% feeders with the balance on pairs and slaughter cattle. Of the feeders 23% steers with 99% over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 935 to 941 lbs., 124.50; 950 to 975 lbs., 119.25 to 122.50 (120.98). Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 head, 333 lbs., 163.00; 6 head, 650 lbs., 132.50; 51 head, 803 lbs., 130.00.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 601 to 622 lbs., 142.50 to 143.50 (143.03); 670 to 686 lbs., 128.75 to 137.25 (136.03); 759 to 766 lbs., 124.50 to 128.75 (127.15); 834 to 837 lbs., 121.00 to 121.25 (121.02) fleshy; 865 to 881 lbs., 120.35 to 120.50 (120.42); 34 head, 869 lbs., 120.00 fleshy; 908 to 918 lbs., 119.35 to 120.10 (119.91). Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 48 head, 625 lbs., 138.75; 134 head, 693 lbs., 134.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1, Solid mouth, 1380 to 1475 lbs., with 100- to 150-lb. calves, 1300.00 to 1340.00; 1330 lbs., with fresh babies, 1000.00. Short solid mouth, 1460 to 1575 lbs., with 160- to 165-lb. calves, 1185.00 to 1300.00. Broken mouth, 1345 lbs., with 140-lb. calves, 1100.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, Solid mouth 1375 lbs., with 100-lb. calves, 1210.00. Short solid mouth, 1375 to 1450 lbs., with 100- to 130-lb. calves, 1150.00 to 1160.00.

Baby calves: Mix sexes, Medium and large frame 1, 195- to 205-lb. calves, 400.00 to 420.00; 125- to 165-lb. calves, 300.00 to 360.00; 75- to 115-lb. calves, 225.00 to 275.00; 1 to 2 days old, 60- to 85-lbs., 110.00 to 175.00.
