Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman’s Livestock Commission Co., Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 1,337 head April 11, compared to 1,296 head last week and 1,919 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to a week ago, feeder steers and heifers under 600 pounds were firm, steers at 600 to 700 pounds were steady, and heifers over 600 pounds and steers over 700 pounds were $2 to $3 lower. Slaughter cows were $2 lower. Slaughter bulls not well tested. Trade and demand was good on thin or gaunt 300- to 550-pound feeders and moderate on feeders over 550 pounds. Interest in summer grazing type calves remains good in spite of lack of moisture over the trade area. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 900-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 15% and slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1%, and feeders 85%. The feeder supply included 56% steers and 44% heifers, with nearly 59% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 403 lbs., 173.00, few 436 lbs., 167.00; few 720 lbs., thin 133.00. Medium and large frame 2, few 343 lbs., 149.00; few 448 lbs., 144.00; few 590 lbs., thin 147.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, three packages 342 to 359 lbs., thin 173.00; 350 to 400 lbs., 164.00 to 165.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 151.00 to 156.00, pre-conditioned 159.00 to 164.00, few 454 lbs., thin 170.00; few 525 lbs., pre-conditioned 155.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 132.00 to 134.50, few 683 lbs., 128.50; 700 to 725 lbs., 129.00 to 129.50; 775 to 800 lbs., 120.50 to 121.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 300 to 350 lbs., thin 161.00 to 162.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 144.00 to 150.50, few 476 lbs., 140.00; few 500 to 550 lbs., 141.00 to 143.00, few 580 lbs., 132.00; few 668 lbs., 129.00; few 700 to 750 lbs., 126.00 to 126.50.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1400 to 1700 lbs., 74.00 to 78.00. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1500 lbs., 76.00 to 79.00; high dressing, 82.50 to 84.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 75.00 to 76.00; high dressing, 83.00 to 85.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 79.50 to 81.00.

Dairy slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1500 to 1700 lbs, 74.00 to 74.50. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1400 to 1600 lbs., 72.25 to 77.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1100 to 1500 lbs., 71.00 to 78.00; low dressing, 65.00 to 69.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, not well tested.
