Ft. Smith livestock auction summary

The Ft. Smith Livestock, Ft. Smith, Ark., reported receipts of 502 head April 8, compared to 280 head last week and 250 head last year, according to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture-USDA Market News Service, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows were steady. Slaughter bulls were $1 higher. Feeder steers and heifers were $3 to $8 higher. The supply included 250 feeder calves, 171 feeder yearlings, 19 replacement cows, 52 slaughter cows, 7 slaughter bulls, and 3 replacement bulls. The feeder supply consisted of about 40% English breed and English crosses, 30% Exotic breed and Exotic crosses, 30% Brahman and Brahman crosses, and 0% Holsteins and other dairy breeds. The feeder supply included about 55% steers and bulls with 45% heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 76.00 to 80.50; high dressing, 81.00 to 85.00; low dressing, 71.00 to 75.50. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 80.00 to 84.50; high dressing, 85.00 to 89.50; low dressing, 75.00 to 79.50. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 78.00 to 82.50; high dressing, 83.00 to 87.00; low dressing, 73.00 to 77.50. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 60.00 to 64.50; high dressing, 65.00 to 69.00; low dressing, 55.00 to 59.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 91.00 to 98.50; high dressing, 101.00 to 105.00.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 305 to 345 lbs., 197.50 to 211.00 (206.12); 365 to 393 lbs., 193.00 to 205.00 (201.96); 405 lbs., 195.00 to 198.00 (196.50); 500 to 540 lbs., 161.00 to 168.00 (164.22); 555 to 595 lbs., 154.00 to 160.00 (157.76); 600 to 635 lbs., 150.00 to 157.00 (153.40); 650 to 673 lbs., 140.00 to 145.00 (141.99); 715 to 733 lbs., 129.00; 800 lbs., 113.00; 1068 lbs., 101.00. Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 2 to 7 years old, 750 to 1100 lbs., open cows, 81.00 to 87.00; 2 to 3 years old, 900 to 1125 lbs., first and third stage, 975.00 to 1075.00/head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 to 4 years old, 900 to 950 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, 1275.00/pair.
