West Plains regional cattle sales report

The Ozarks Regional Stockyards, West Plains, Mo., reported receipts of 965 head, March 26, compared to 3,909 head, last week and 3,167 head, last year, according to the Missouri Department of Agriculture to USDA Market News, Jefferson City, Mo.

Compared to last week, too few sales in most classes and weight ranges for an adequate price comparison, generally undertone steady to weak. However, a few comparable sales of the popular breed 450 to 600 pounds were steady to $2 higher, and especially noted on long to weaned black to hided steers. Supply light with lots of singles and small packages, and there was a pot to load of 8 weight heifers, but they had quite a bit of meat, even packing some flesh. Demand light to moderate, but at these price levels the market was fairly active and buyers more aggressive this week on the better quality weaned packages having all their shots. Supply consisted of 46 percent steers, 54 percent heifers. Near 42 percent over 600 pounds.
