Amarillo livestock auction summary

The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 905 head March 25, compared to 1,892 head last week and 865 head last year, according to the USDA to Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers sold steady to weak on a limited test. Calves not well tested. Trade activity and demand were moderate.

Offering included a few loads of medium and large frame 1 to 2 steers and heifers weighing over 700 pounds. Slaughter cows and bulls sold $2 to $4 lower. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 8 percent, 2 percent replacements, 90 percent feeders. Feeder supply consisted of 60 percent steers and bulls, 40 percent heifers. Near 84 percent of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 428 lbs., 170.00; few 473 lbs., 159.50; few 562 lbs., 158.50; 1,000 to 1050 lbs., 108.50 to 110.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 378 lbs., 140.00; load 824 lbs., fleshy 123.00; few 866 lbs., 120.50; couple loads 906 lbs., 119.25. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, 700 to 800 lbs., 117.50 to 121.50.

Holsteins: Large 3 lot, 368 lbs., 96.00; few 639 lbs., 92.00.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, few 455 lbs., 157.00; few 650 lbs., 134.00; few 840 lbs., 117.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 400 to 500 lbs., 152.50 to 159.50; few 533 lbs., 142.00; few 590 lbs., 133.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 405 lbs., 157.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 122.25 to 125.50. Medium and large frame 2, few 433 lbs., 141.00. Medium and large frame 2 to 3, 700 to 750 lbs., 113.00 to 118.00.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1,200 to 1,500 lbs.; low dressing, 73.75. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1,000 to 1,400 lbs.; high dressing, 85.50 to 86.75; low dressing, 73.00 to 75.25. Lean 85 to 90% lean, 1,000 to 1,200 lbs.; high dressing, 84.00. Lean 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1,000 lbs.; high dressing, 82.00 to 85.25; low dressing, 73.50.

Slaughter bulls:Yield grade 1 to 2, individual 1,690 lbs.,92.00; low dressing, 1,310 to 1,895 lbs., 86.00 to 90.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to short and solid 800 to 1,000 lbs., 3 to 6 months bred 825.00 to 950.00; young to aged 1,000 to 1,200 lbs., 6 to 9 months 960.00 to 1085.00 per head.

Cow/calf pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2 short and solid 1,000 lbs., with 100 lb. calf, 1025.00 per pair.
