Tulia livestock auction report

The Tulia Livestock Auction Inc., Tulia, Texas, reported receipts of 2,739 head March 21, compared to 2,557 head last week and 1,577 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers traded $2 to $5 lower. Steer and heifer calves were lightly tested however a much lower undertone was noted. Trade activity was fairly active on moderate to good demand. The CME futures this week struggled and left buyers somewhat hesitant. The offering included many loads of Medium and large frame 1, steers and heifers weighing over 700 pounds came off of local wheat pastures. Slaughter cows sold mostly $2 lower with instances of $4 lower. Slaughter bulls were not well tested. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 5%, less than 1% replacements and 95% feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 61% steers and bulls, 39% heifers, with nearly 88% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 278 lbs., 212.00; few 331 lbs., 182.50; 450 to 500 lbs., 176.00 to 181.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 148.50 to 157.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 141.00 to 150.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 135.00 to 139.75; loads 766 lbs., 132.00 to 135.00; 800 to 850 lbs., 128.50 to 130.50; 850 to 900 lbs., 122.50 to 124.85; 900 to 950 lbs., 121.10 to 124.00; lot 997 lbs., 119.85. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400 to 450 lbs., 156.50 to 171.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 144.00 to 148.50; few 653 lbs., 140.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 130.50 to 135.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 120.00 to 125.00; load 931 lbs., 117.85.

Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, few 618 lbs., 138.00.

Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, lot 227 lbs., 201.00; 300 to 350 lbs., 164.00 to 178.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 155.00 to 156.00; 550 to 600 lbs., 138.00 to 141.00, few 569 lbs., fleshy 130.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 127.00 to 132.00; 700 to 750 lbs., 124.25 to 128.50; 750 to 800 lbs., 122.85 to 125.00; 800 to 850 lbs., 119.85 to 121.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 271 lbs., 180.00; few 422 lbs., 150.00; lot 545 lbs., 125.00; few 601 lbs., 126.00; lot 820 lbs., 117.50.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1500 lbs., 75.50 to 78.00; low dressing, 70.00 to 74.00. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1400 lbs., 80.50 to 84.00; high dressing, 85.00 to 86.50; low dressing, 74.25 to 78.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 82.00 to 83.00; high dressing, 84.50 to 86.00; 85 to 90% lean, 800 to 1000 lbs., 76.50 to 79.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, high dressing, individual 1630 lbs., 106.00; low dressing, individual 1600 lbs., 94.00.

Bred cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young individual, 1275 lbs., 3 to 6 months bred 1285.00; short and solid, 1200 to 1550 lbs., 3 to 9 months bred, 1000.00 to 1185.00/head.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, middle-aged to short and solid, 1250 to 1500 lbs., with 100- to 150-lb. calves, 1375.00 to 1485.00/pair. Medium and large frame 2, short and solid, individual, 1300 lbs., with 100-lb. calf, 1100.00.
