Newell sheep sales report

St. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 793 head March 21, compared to 1,001 head last week and 730 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, feeder lambs sold steady to $2 higher. Slaughter ewes sold steady. There was good demand for feeder lambs, bred ewes, and slaughter ewes which sold on an active market. The offering consisted of 27% feeder lambs, 51% bred ewes, 22% slaughter ewes and bucks.

Slaughter lambs: Wooled Choice 2 to 3, 5 head, 143 lbs., 90.00.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, Fleshy, 40 head, 175 lbs., 27.00. Good 3 to 4, fleshy 6 head, 193 lbs., 25.50. Utility 1 to 2, Medium, 24 head, 143 lbs., 25.50. Cull 1, Thin, 38 head, 121 lbs., 19.00.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 81 to 87 lbs., 106.00 to 112.00 (111.36); 9 head, 115 lbs., 99.50; 14 head, 120 lbs., 94.00. Medium frame 1 to 2, 35 head, 58 lbs., 103.00; 101 head, 76 lbs., 110.50.

Replacement ewes: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, Whiteface, 80 head, 129 lbs., 1 to 2 years old, due May 15 152.50; 16 head, 148 to 157 lbs., 1 to 2 years old, due April 1 to April 15 100.00 to 115.00 black face; 11 head, 239 lbs., 2 to Solid, due April 6 105.00; 225 head, 129 to 205 lbs., Solid due April 1 to May 15 75.00 to 87.50; 73 head, 124 to 195 lbs., Broken, due April 1 to May 15 50.00 to 60.00.
