Ada livestock auction report


The Southern Oklahoma Livestock Auction, Ada, Okla., reported receipts of 1,100 head March 20, compared to 885 head last week, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, there was no recent adequate test of the market for comparison but calves and yearlings were sharply lower with steer calves showing the most severe declines. Demand was moderate for all classes. Lower futures markets and feedlot losses pressured calves and feeders. Overall quality of offerings average. Heifers made up 39% of offerings and cattle over 600 pounds were 29% of the supply. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady to $1 lower. Packer demand was moderate. A total of 241 cows and bulls sold with 56% going to packers.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 7 head, 288 to 295 lbs., 203.00 to 208.00 (204.44); 11 head, 308 to 335 lbs., 200.00 to 215.00 (209.23); 18 head, 366 to 398 lbs., 173.00 to 188.00 (181.06); 404 to 448 lbs., 164.00 to 174.00 (166.00); 450 to 498 lbs., 160.00 to 172.00 (163.42); 513 to 54 lbs., 150.00 to 160.00 (155.21); 10 head, 555 to 572 lbs., 149.00 to 154.00 (151.68); 16 head, 613 to 646 lbs., 132.00 to 137.50 (134.60) calves; 650 to 693 lbs., 130.50 to 137.00 (134.09) calves; 719 to 745 lbs., 128.00 to 132.00 (130.24); 7 head, 786 lbs., 125.00. Medium and large frame 2, 10 head, 510 to 544 lbs., 143.00 to 154.00 (150.12); 565 to 591 lbs., 135.00 to 144.00 (140.86); 5 head, 708 to 747 lbs., 115.50 to 124.00 (120.71).

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 5 head, 311 to 315 lbs., 166.00 to 167.00 (166.80); 14 head, 405 to 429 lbs., 150.00 to 160.00 (155.77); 455 to 494 lbs., 152.00 to 159.50 (156.96); 500 to 543 lbs., 138.50 to 152.00 (143.57); 553 to 590 lbs., 131.00 to 139.00 (134.45); 610 to 644 lbs., 124.50 to 127.50 (126.54) calves; 8 head, 701 to 748 lbs., 118.50 to 120.00 (119.41). Medium and large frame 2, 8 head, 405 to 440 lbs., 135.00 to 144.00 (138.34); 13 head, 565 to 586 lbs., 124.00 to 135.50 (126.38).

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 17 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1225 to 1550 lbs., 82.00 to 84.00; low dressing, 78.50 to 80.00. Boners, 38 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 83.00 to 86.50; high dressing, 89.00; low dressing, 77.00 to 82.50. Lean, 28 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1175 lbs., 79.00 to 82.00; low dressing, 73.00 to 75.00. Lights, 12 head, 85 to 90% lean, 750 to 1000 lbs., 74.00 to 79.00; high dressing, 87.50; low dressing, 70.00 to 73.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 20 head, 1300 to 1925 lbs., 99.00 to 103.00; high dressing, 105.00 to 106.50; low dressing, 93.00 to 97.50; very high 112.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 to 6 years old, 1175 to 1450 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, average blacks, 1100.00 to 1390.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 to 6 years old, 850 to 1150 lbs., with 175- to 300-lb. calves, average blacks, 1270.00 to 1390.00; 7 to 8 years old, 1025 to 1125 lbs., with 150- to 200-lb. calves, average quality, 1200.00 to 1240.00; 9 + years old, 900 to 1175 lbs., with 100- to 175-lb. calves, average quality, 1080.00 to 1190.00.
