Salers enthusiasts and junior exhibitors gathered in Du Quoin, Ill., July 11 to 14 for the 28th annual Junior National Show. American Salers Junior Association members participated in a wide variety of contest and events throughout the Junior National with a great week ending on July 14 with the evaluation of the cattle by Duane and Julie Stephens from West Salem, Ill.

Justin and Hannah Spittler judged the ever competitive Team Fitting contest and awarded the championship honors to Landon Liebhart, Maryville, Mo.; Riley Spire, Maryville, Mo.; Amelia Liebhart, New Boston, Mo.; Casey Huffmaster, Williford, Ark.; and Tygr Taylor, Lewisburg, Tenn. Salers junior exhibitors competed in the No Fit Showmanship contest. Alex Popplewell, Russell Springs, Ky., took home champion Senior Showman honors, Madyson Maze, Goreville, Ill., won the Intermediate division and Junior champion was Morgan Street, Cave City, Ark. Justin and Hannah Spittler judged the No Fit Showmanship competition and did a very nice job working with the junior members.

Later that afternoon the 2012/2013 Queen and Princess were selected. The new Queen of the American Salers Junior Association is Sarah Bush, Blairstown, Mo., and the 2012/2013 Princess is Lindsey Huffmaster, Williford, Ark.

Following the selection of the Grand Champion Heifer, Kevin and Lisa Babs, Salem, Ill, came together to evaluate the junior exhibitors in the Showmanship Showdown competition. This competition judges the exhibitor on not only their ability to exhibit their animal, but to fit and present their animal as well. This year's winner was Casey Huffmaster, Williford, Ark., and reserve went to Nick Zastrow, Long Prairie, Minn.
