KANSAS! Magazine receives two awardsKansas KANSAS! Magazine, the colorful travel magazine published by the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, has been recognized with two prestigious awards by the International Association of Printing House Craftsmen. Each year, the IAPHC sponsors a competition showcasing the finest printed materials from around the world. KANSAS! Magazine received a Gold award for the 2010 Summer issue and a Silver award for the 2011 Summer issue. The magazine is managed and edited by the KDWPT Tourism Division. McCormick Armstrong Co., Inc., of Wichita, Kan., which prints the magazine, entered the issues on behalf of the department. Sunflower Publishing, Lawrence, Kan., designs and produces the publication. "We are extremely honored to receive such a prestigious award for KANSAS! Magazine," said Becky Blake, director of tourism. "This publication has been a favorite of Kansans and subscribers from across the globe for over six decades. We're proud to continue the long tradition of using such a beautiful magazine to share our wonderful state with readers." The entries were evaluated by an international panel of jurors. In 2011, entries were received from all corners of the world including Australia, Britain, China, Egypt, Hong Kong, Korea, India, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Poland, Russia, Singapore, South Africa and the United States. Magazines were judged on design, print quality, overall appearance and binding. KANSAS! Magazine is published quarterly in February, May, August and November as the Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter issues. First published in 1945, KANSAS! has about 43,000 subscribers from around the world. The magazine is also available in bookstores, grocery stores and museum gift shops across Kansas.
