Sunflower Piecemakers quilt show set for Sept. 8
The 28th Annual Sunflower Piecemakers quilt show will be held on Sept. 8 at the Goppert Building, 705 W 15th, Ottawa, Kan., from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $3, wheelchairs are available.
Guild members will display over 200 quilts completed during the past year that incorporate a variety of quilt patterns and color combinations. The quilts come in all sizes from minis and table runners to king-size bed quilts. The 2011 Large and Small Visitors' Choice quilts will be displayed. Visitors will have an opportunity to vote for the 2012 Visitors' Choice Awards.
The guild challenge, "Memories Down on the Farm" will showcase member quilts that reflect their interpretation of rural life.
Vendors have been invited to the show. Quilting items, fabrics, sewing tools and gifts will be sold at their booths. One vendor will be cleaning and repairing Featherweight sewing machines.
Guild members will provide demonstrations of quilting techniques and patterns.
At 3:30 p.m. the guild will hold a live auction of miniature quilts. These quilts have been made and donated by the guild members. Buddy Griffin, auctioneer, will officiate. In August, the miniature quilts may be viewed at http://kansasauctions.net/griffin. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Franklin County Historical Society, Franklin County Visitor's Center, and the Sunflower Piecemakers quilt guild.
The drawing for the 2012 opportunity quilt will be held following the close of the auction. This applique and pieced quilt was sewn by guild members and quilted by Brenda Weien of Brenda's Quilting. Tickets are six for $5, or $1 for a single ticket. To view the quilt visit http://sunflowerpiecemakers.com.
