Colorado Parks and Wildlife to host pronghorn hunting seminar

Colorado Parks and Wildlife will host a "Pronghorn Hunting 101" class for hunters interested in learning pronghorn hunting tips and tricks. The program is 7 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Rocky Ford Bird Farm.

The workshop is a way for hunters to learn how and where to hunt pronghorn and improve their chances of successfully harvesting an animal. Preparation for the hunt, pronghorn biology, hunting techniques and ethical hunting will be covered in the presentation.

"We will specifically focus on hunting in southeast Colorado," said local Colorado Parks and Wildlife District Wildlife Manager Steve Keefer. "We'll cover things like scouting water holes, movement patterns, stalking versus standing and how pronghorns tend to be in larger groups during the late seasons."

Keefer said the seminar has a lot to offer in terms of improving hunting skills, how to find quality hunting areas and how to make sure you have a safe, successful hunt. Our goal is to help hunters improve their success in the field and provide an introduction to those who want to learn more about pronghorn hunting.

The Rocky Ford State Bird Farm is two miles northeast of Rocky Ford at 21898 County Road 805. Admission is free.

Regular rifle pronghorn season is Oct. 1 to 7.

Muzzleloader pronghorn season is Oct. 21 to 29.

Late rifle pronghorn season is Dec. 3 to 7.

For more information, call the Colorado Parks and Wildlife office in Lamar at 719-336-6600, Steve Keefer at 719-940-3586 or Jordan DePriest at 719-940-3588.
