Taiwan Agricultural Youth Exchange Program accepting applicationsKansas The 2012 Taiwan Agricultural Youth Exchange Program is seeking applications from high school seniors and college freshmen, who are passionate about agriculture, to represent Kansas in a six-day exchange program in Taiwan in December 2012. Students selected to participate in the program, which is hosted by the National Taichung Agricultural Senior High School in central Taiwan, will tour agricultural facilities and businesses in Taiwan and learn more about Taiwanese agriculture production. The date of the tour is still to be determined, but is expected to be in early December. "Agriculture today is a global industry. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn more about the international marketplace and gain international travel experience at a young age," said Kate Bormann, Kansas Department of Agriculture education and event coordinator. "Not only will they be learning about Taiwanese agriculture, but they are also representing our state, which makes this opportunity even more unique." Three students will be selected to represent Kansas. In order to be eligible to apply, students must meet the following requirements: --Be a high school senior or college freshman; --Be at least 18 years of age by the beginning of the trip; --Have a strong Kansas agricultural background; --Have a valid US passport at time of application; and --Able and willing to pay for airfare costs (approximately $1,050). Students interested in applying should reference the 2012 Taiwan Agricultural Youth Exchange Program Opportunity website for more details about the application process. Applications must be submitted by Oct. 1 for the student to be considered. The program is being coordinated by the Kansas Department of Agriculture, the Kansas FFA Association and Kansas 4-H.
