Basic Ag Field Day scheduled Sept. 28
Oklahomans who own a small acreage, are new landowners or absentee landowners are invited to attend the "Basic Ag Field Day" seminar scheduled for Sept. 28, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The Basic Ag Field Day seminar will be held at the Oklahoma County OSU Cooperative Extension Service in Oklahoma City.
"We've organized this year's agriculture field day so that it can benefit either beginning or absentee landowners, as well as those who own a small acreage," explained Ray Ridlen, the Horticulture and Agriculture educator for the Oklahoma County OSU Cooperative Extension Service.
In the last few years especially, Ridlen believes the challenge to new and absentee landowners is to deal with drought conditions and the threat to wildlife and plant growth.
"Most of us have never dealt with a drought like this in our lifetime," stressed Ridlen. "For anyone who is new to the business of agriculture, trying to deal with this kind of drought can be devastating."
To help Oklahoma's new agriculture producers, small landowners and even absentee landowners, the OSU Cooperative Extension Service will partner with the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation in offering important information on topics like leases, stocking rates, technical guidance and even cost share.
"We want to encourage anyone who is trying to make a go of it in the agriculture industry, whether part or full time, to attend this one-day event," Ridlen said.
Even though the program is geared toward small acreage producers, those new to agriculture and absentee landowners, seasoned producers can also benefit from the information, Ridlen pointed out.
Even though there is no cost for the event, residents are encouraged to contact the Oklahoma County OSU Cooperative Extension Service at 405-713-1125 to reserve their spot. Registration for the Basic Ag Field Day will begin at 12:30 p.m.
"We'll have plenty of opportunity for question and answer sessions in a variety of topic areas," Ridlen said, so we encourage anyone with questions about land management to come out and take part in this event."
The Basic Ag Field Day will be held in the Oklahoma County OSU Cooperative Extension Service auditorium, located at 930 N. Portland in Oklahoma City. For more information about this program or other educational classes, contact the Extension Service at 405-713-1125.
