Aberdeen cattle sales report

The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, S.D., reported receipts of 4,577 head Sept. 12, compared to 3,110 head last week and 2,832 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Compared to last week, steers weighing 800 to 1,000 pounds sold $3 to $4 higher. Several high-volume local and out-of-state order buyers were ready to pay premium for green yearlings in potload packages. Almost all the feeder cattle sold were steers and over 800 pounds. The offering included 98% steers, 2% heifers, with 100% over 600 pounds.

Feeder steers: Medium and large frame 1, 15 head, 633 lbs., 159.00; 719 to 748 lbs., 150.25 to 153.80 (152.74); 757 to 795 lbs., 148.25 to 151.20 (150.96); 809 to 849 lbs., 139.50 to 147.25 (145.42); 857 to 896 lbs., 139.50 to 143.90 (143.04); 900 to 945 lbs., 138.00 to 142.25 (140.41); 33 head, 942 lbs., 134.40 full; 954 to 956 lbs., 136.75 to 138.75 (138.11). Large frame 1, 10 head, 1000 lbs., 131.25; 270 head, 1098 lbs., 126.25.

Feeder heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 10 head, 670 lbs., 140.25; 20 head, 815 lbs., 134.75; 9 head, 897 lbs., 132.75; 10 head, 934 lbs., 129.50; 19 head, 963 to 996 lbs., 128.25 to 132.25 (130.74).
