McAlester livestock market report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Okla., Oklahoma City, Okla., reported receipts of 1,520 head Sept. 11, compared to 820 head last week and 2,600 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, steers under 400 pounds were $5 to $6 lower, and over 400 pounds were $3 to $6 higher. Heifers sold $2 to $6 higher with few under 350 pounds up to $15 higher. Quality was plain to average. The supply includes 22% over 600 pounds, 44% heifers. Slaughter cows were $1 to $4 higher, except lean cows were $1 lower. Slaughter bulls were steady. A total of 220 cows and bulls sold with 74% going to packers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 37 head, 75 to 80% lean, 1050 to 1675 lbs., 78.00 to 81.00; high dressing, 82.00 to 85.00; low dressing, 74.00 to 77.00. Boners, 35 head, 80 to 85% lean, 1000 to 1575 lbs., 81.00 to 84.00; high dressing, 85.00 to 88.00; low dressing, 76.00 to 80.00. Lean, 42 head, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1300 lbs., 78.00 to 81.00; high dressing, 82.00 to 85.00; low dressing, 74.00 to 77.00. Light, 24 head, 75 to 90% lean, 900 to 1000 lbs., 77.00 to 80.00; high dressing, 81.00 to 84.00; low dressing, 73.00 to 76.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 26 head, 1300 to 2100 lbs., 100.00 to 103.00; high dressing, 104.00 to 107.00; low dressing, 94.00 to 99.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 1 to 4 years old, 950 to 1100 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average to high quality, 1100.00 to 1150.00; 5 to 6 years old, 975 to 1250 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average quality, 970.00 to 1020.00; 7 to 8 years old, 1025 to 1375 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, average to high quality, 1020.00 to 1075.00.
