Texas Direct feeder cattle summary

The Texas Weekly Direct Feeder Cattle Summary, reported receipts of 19,700 head September 7, compared to 24,600 head last week and 13,600 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, current FOB feeder steers and heifers were mostly steady on a lighter test. Receipts, although less than last week, remain above a year ago. Ongoing dry weather and limited forage availability has force early movement of feeders in many areas around the country. Approximately 93% of this week's cattle weighed over 600 pounds. Approximately 59% of this week's weighted average receipts were steers and 41% heifers. Prices based on net weights FOB after a 3% shrink or equivalent and 5 to 10 cent slide on calves and 4 to 6 cent slide on yearlings from base weights. Current sales are up to 14 days delivery.
