Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman's Livestock Commission Co., Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 3,017 head Sept. 6, compared to 2,237 head last week and 4,575 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, thin or gaunt kinds of feeder steers and heifers were mostly firm to $2 higher; fleshy and non-weaned calves were steady to $2 lower. Quality on receipts were plain to attractive. A larger percentage of fleshy calves right off their mothers were on offer and buyers were very selective placing these kinds under increased pricing pressure. Slaughter cows and bulls were firm. Trade and demand was moderate to good. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 850-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 15%, slaughter bulls 1%, replacement cows 2%, and feeders 82%. The feeder supply included 61% steers and 39% heifers, with nearly 38% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Steers: Medium and large frame 1, 200 to 300 lbs., 218.00 to 219.00; 300 to 400 lbs., 203.00 to 207.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 174.00 to 186.00, fancy 197.00 to 199.00, fleshy 160.00 to 165.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 157.00 to 168.00, fleshy 150.00 to 158.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 152.00 to 157.00, calves 141.00 to 149.00; 700 to 800 lbs., 143.00 to 147.00, fleshy 140.00; 800 to 900 lbs., 135.00 to 138.50. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400 to 450 lbs., 161.00 to 174.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 150.00 to 154.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 148.00 to 152.00, fleshy 141.00 to 146.50, two loads 568 lbs., full 145.50; few 612 lbs., thin 148.00; load 664 lbs., calves 140.50; 700 800 lbs., 135.00 to 138.00. Dairy slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1600 to 1800 lbs., 74.50 to 74.75. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1200 to 1350 lbs., 72.00 to 72.50; low dressing, 61.00 to 65.50.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1300 to 1800 lbs., 95.00 to 97.00; high dressing, 1700 to 1950 lbs., 102.50 to 103.00.

Replacement cows: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young to middle-aged, 1050 to 1150 lbs., 4 to 6 months bred, 1085.00 to 1110.00/head; young to middle-aged, 1100 to 1300 lbs., 7 to 9 months bred, 1100.00 to 1300.00.
