Clovis livestock auction summary

The Clovis Livestock Auction, Clovis, N.M., reported receipts to 2,975 head Sept. 5, compared to 1,966 head last week and 4,039 head last year, according to the USDA-New Mexico Department of Agriculture Market News, Clovis, N.M.

Compared to last month there was no comparison on Holstein steers due to limited receipts, but a lower undertone was noted. Compared to last week, feeder steers were steady to $3 higher, except those at 300 to 350 pounds were $6 higher. Heifers under 600 pounds were $2 to $6 higher, 600 pounds were steady on limited receipts. Slaughter cows and bulls were steady to strong. Trade was active, demand very good. The bulk of the supply were medium and large frame 1 to 2, 300- to 700-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows 17% of the offering, slaughter bulls 3%, bred cows 6%, pairs 1%, feeders 73%. In the feeder supply, steers made up approximately 52% of the run, Holstein steers 5%, heifers 43%, feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds totaled 15%.
