Salina cattle sales report

The Farmers and Ranchers Livestock Commission Co., Salina, Kan., reported receipts of 1,583 head Sept. 27, compared to 2,076 head last week and 4,437 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kan.

Compared with last week, steers at 850 to 900 pounds were $4 higher. Steers at 850 pounds and under were in a limited supply with higher undertones. Heifers at 750 pounds and under had higher undertones and 750 pounds and over had lower undertones in an extremely limited supply. Trade and demand were moderate. Receipts included 67% 600 pounds and over, 32% 600 pounds and under, 1% slaughter cows and bulls. The supply was 75% steers and 25% heifers, with 67% 600 pounds and over.
