Newell sheep sales reportSt. Onge Livestock Co., Ltd., Newell, S.D., reported receipts of 5,987 head Sept. 27, compared to 16,085 head last week and 5,790 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, S.D. Compared to last week, feeder lambs 50 to 89 pounds sold $3 to $6 lower, 90 to 99 pounds sold $6 to $8 lower, over 100 pounds sold $2 to $3 lower. Good slaughter ewes sold $3 to $4 higher, Utility sold $2 higher. Moderate demand for several long strings and many packages of feeder lambs and slaughter ewes which sold on a moderate market. The offering consisted of 62% feeder lambs, 7% replacement ewes, 31% slaughter ewes and bucks. Slaughter lambs: Wooled Choice 1 to 2, 120 to 128 lbs., 77.25 to 78.00 (77.58); 20 head, 138 lbs., 76.00. Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, fleshy, 284 head, 171 lbs., 34.25. Good 3 to 4, fleshy, 12 head, 225 lbs., 33.00. Utility 1 to 2, Medium, 155 to 158 lbs., 29.00. Cull 1, thin, 143 to 153 lbs., 26.25 to 27.50 (27.42). Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 46 head, 39 lbs., 129.00; 21 head, 45 lbs., 122.00; 52 to 58 lbs., 113.00 to 122.00 (116.18); 61 to 66 lbs., 100.00 to 104.50 (102.51); 73 to 78 lbs., 88.75 to 93.00 (91.00); 80 to 89 lbs., 85.00 to 91.75 (89.42); 90 to 97 lbs., 81.25 to 87.00 (82.69); 102 to 107 lbs., 80.00 to 85.00 (83.60); 93 head, 111 lbs., 80.75. Medium and large frame 2, 44 to 47 lbs., 107.00 to 114.00 (110.17).
