Dalhart livestock auction report


The Cattleman's Livestock Commission Co., Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 3,396 head Sept. 27, compared to 4,460 head last week and 4,502 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to last week, feeder steers under 700 pounds were $2 to $4 lower. Heifers under 700 pounds were steady to weak. Steers over 700 pounds were firm, heifers over 600 pounds firm in a light test. Heavier unweaned reputation-type calves from the same sources this week as last week were not as well received this week. Quality on receipts ranged from plain to attractive. Body condition on receipts ranged from mostly moderate to fleshy. Slaughter cows and bulls were $3 to $4 lower. Trade and demand was mostly moderate on 575 to 725 pound calves to good on yearling kinds. The bulk of the supply were Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 800-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 16%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1%, and feeders 82%. The feeder supply included 52% steers and 48% heifers, with nearly 52% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.

Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 350 to 400 lbs., 177.00 to 178.00; few 400 to 450 lbs., 160.00 to 165.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 142.50 to 151.00, few 596 lbs., 139.00; 600 to 700 lbs., 136.00 to 139.00, load 695 lbs., 133.00; few 780 lbs., 138.50. Medium and large frame 2, few 377 to 383 lbs., 166.00; few 500 to 550 lbs., 135.00 to 140.00; few 659 lbs., gaunt 135.50. Small and medium frame 1 to 2, few 550 to 600 lbs., 124.00 to 125.50; few 600 to 700 lbs., 128.00 to 132.00.

Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80% lean, 1200 to 1500 lbs., 67.00 to 72.00; high dressing, 72.50 to 73.25. Boning, 80 to 85% lean, 1100 to 1300 lbs., 68.50 to 72.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 1000 to 1200 lbs., 68.00 to 71.00; low dressing, 60.00 to 66.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1450 to 1750 lbs., 81.00 to 86.50.
