Arkansas livestock auction summary

The summary of livestock auctions in Arkansas for the week ending Sept. 27, showed estimated receipts of 11,105 head, compared to 8,604 head last week and 13,103 head last year, according to the USDA-Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service, Little Rock, Ark.

Compared to last week, slaughter cows sold $1 to $2 lower. Slaughter bulls sold $2 lower. Feeders under 500 pounds were weak to $4 lower, weights over 500 pounds sold near steady. The supply included 7,275 stocker and feeder calves, 1,845 feeder yearlings, 585 replacement cows, and 1,265 slaughter cows, and 135 slaughter bulls. The feeder supply was 42% yearling heifers.

Slaughter cows: Breakers, 75 to 80% lean, 1000 to 1500 lbs., 69.00 to 75.00; high dressing, 75.00 to 84.00; low dressing, 64.00 to 69.00. Boners, 80 to 85% lean, 950 to 1400 lbs., 69.00 to 75.00; high dressing, 75.00 to 84.00; low dressing, 62.00 to 69.00. Lean, 85 to 90% lean, 900 to 1300 lbs., 65.00 to 71.00; high dressing, 71.00 to 81.00; low dressing, 55.00 to 65.00. Light, 85 to 92% lean, 700 to 950 lbs., 54.00 to 60.00; low dressing, 44.00 to 54.00.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 1000 to 2100 lbs., 85.00 to 95.00; high dressing, 95.00 to 104.00; low dressing, 75.00 to 85.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 3 to 7 years old, 800 to 1200 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, 1050.00 to 1150.00/pair; 200- to 300-lb. calves, 1125.00 to 1225.00/pair few to 1380.00/pair. Small and medium frame 1 to 3, few 4 to 8 years old, 800 to 1000 lbs., with 100- to 200-lb. calves, untested.
