Ada livestock auction report

The Southern Oklahoma Livestock Auction, Ada, Okla., reported receipts of 2,160 head Sept. 26, compared to 1,753 head last week and 3,040 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves were generally steady. Yearling steers were not established, heifers were $1 to $2 higher in light test. Demand was good for weaned calves in thin condition, un-weaned and fleshy calves sold to light to moderate demand. Overall quality was average to attractive. Fills were mostly average. Heifers made up 41% of offerings and weights over 600 pounds comprised 20% of the supply. Slaughter cows were $3 to $4 lower. Slaughter bulls were not established although a lower undertone was apparent. Overall quality of packer cows and bulls was well below last week and fills favored sellers. The offering included 512 cows and bulls sold with 61% going to packers.

Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 14 head, 1300 to 1800 lbs., 92.00 to 94.50; low dressing, 88.00 to 90.00.

Replacement cows: 2 to 6 years old, 950 to 1250 lbs., 1 to 4 months bred, high black, 1225.00 to 1475.00; 5 to 8 years old, 1100 to 1400 lbs., 5 to 7 months bred, average black, 1030.00 to 1320.00.

Pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 5 years old, 1100 lbs., with 275-lb. calves, average black, bred back, 1425.00; 7 to 8 years old, 925 to 1095 lbs., with 175- to 250-lb. calves, average black, 1090.00 to 1250.00.
