Range conditions rated mostly very poorNew Mexico During the week ending Sept. 30, there were 6.8 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Oct. 1. Topsoil moisture was 39 percent very short, 46 percent short and 15 percent adequate. Wind damage was 5 percent light, 2 percent moderate and 2 percent severe; with cotton 80 percent damaged and sorghum 55 percent damaged. No hail damage was reported this week. Alfalfa conditions were mostly good; fifth cutting 98 percent complete; sixth cutting 44 percent complete. Cotton conditions were mostly poor to fair; 98 percent setting bolls; 52 percent bolls opening. Corn conditions were mostly fair to good; 90 percent dent; 60 percent mature; 83 percent silage harvested. Sorghum conditions were mostly very poor to poor; 95 percent headed; 36 percent turning color. Winter wheat 63 percent planted. Peanut conditions were poor; 100 percent pegging. Lettuce conditions were mostly good; 99 percent planted. Chile conditions were mostly fair to good; 90 percent green harvested. Apple conditions were mostly fair to good; 80 percent harvested. Pecan conditions were mostly good to excellent. Cattle conditions were mostly poor to fair. Sheep conditions were mostly poor to very poor. Range and pasture conditions were mostly very poor.
