Post Rock Extension District is providing an educational meeting designed for producers and Commercial Applicators to be held at Memorial Hall in Downs, Kan., Nov. 7. This all-day school will cover the three crop pest categories: disease, insects, and weeds. Crop pests are in constant change with the soybean aphid, soybean rust, new races of stripe rust, and glyphosate-resistant kochia and marestail as examples of recent changes in the pest equation.
This will be a full-day school that will provide commercial applicators seven hours for 1A recertification along with the one core hour needed for commercial license renewal. CCA credits have been applied for. K-State Research and Extension specialists on the program include Jeff Whitworth, entomologist; Dallas Peterson, weed scientist; and Doug Jardine, plant pathologist. According to Scott Chapman, Post Rock District Extension agent, this program is designed to assist producers, crop consultants, and commercial applicators in identifying insect and disease problems and provide options for prevention and control.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. with presentations continuing until 4:45 p.m. The cost of the meeting is $20 for those registered by Oct. 31. Late registration will be $30.
